What if artists, designers, social workers and city residents collaborated to explore new ways to map and shape the city?
This book offers insight into the process of Publiek Plan, a project that took place between 2022 and 2025 in Ghent, Antwerp, Groningen and Ostend.
Using a board game, narrative city maps, drawings, scale models and a traveling Public Planning Office, encounters and conversations were facilitated about how, where and when people feel at home in the city and which public spaces play a role in this.
The Public Plan project was initiated by Elly Van Eeghem, developed within CAMPUSatelier, and created in collaboration with Sofie Deckers, Maarten Jolie, Jorik De Wilde, Ferre Van Bogaert, Merel Stolker, Joram Kunde Boumkwo, Toon Verdonck, Rona Kennedy, Ilke Bautmans, Klara Vanstraelen & Lennert Janssens.
The Public Plan project was realized with the support of the Flemish Community, the City of Ghent, Arts Center VIERNULVIER, Monty, VAi, Buro Mix, the City of Groningen, De Grote Post, KASK School of Arts Ghent & BE PART Creative Europe.
“we meet people
from the city we end up in
we draw cut paste sculpt build
places that exist
have existed
or could exist
in each city we keep a logbook
of encounters and statements
that we want to hold on to
we don’t usually know yet why
we write something down or what
exactly it means”
– Elly Van Eeghem
